Yes I can be exceptionally nerdy and lazy, but then that's why I feel at home in online communities full of exceptional people. I have a "standard" profile that's good for things like using the mouse, right and left click, TAB, Enter, CTRL, SHIFT, and ALT, scrollwheel, etc., so if I need to do something I can pause the emulator, switch gamepad profiles and go do whatever, then pull up the emulator, switch profiles back to SNES9x and keep playing without ever having to get up and get the mouse. 3 games (95 does not launch at all) DualShock PS3 controllers are supported.
To be even more nerdy, there's also a way to assign buttons to switch to an entirely different setup while you hold that button, so I hold the select button, and I can switch to other gamepad profiles by just hitting the square or triangle or whatever button is mapped to the profile I want. variant of batocera, Retrobat, if you want to play xbox 360 games. Luckily, there are several ways to make your Xbox One X faster and optimize its performance. The mapping utility isn't needed for SNES9x, but I use it to make profiles for lots of different programs and games, so I just have an SNES9x profile. The controller works fine for a while, but if it suffer any disconnection, like when someone stumble on cable, or even if I disconnect and reconnect the cable, the game stops recognizing it. Yeah, I just use a Logitech wireless PS2 controller with a PS2 to USB adapter and then I use joy2key to map the gamepad buttons to keyboard commands.
